Vinesh Phogat Makes History With Gold At Asian Games 2018
  • Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has made every Indian proud by winning gold in the Asian Games 2018 at Jakarta today. She has placed first in the Women’s Freestyle 50 kg match.

The 23-year old Haryana woman has now made history by becoming the first female to win a gold medal in the Asiad. Her opponent Daulatbike Yakshimuratova of Uzbekistan was already beat in the first round itself.

The wrestler had earlier won a bronze medal in the 48kg category at the Incheon Asian Games back in 2014. With her entire family in this sport, she has managed to shine the spotlight on India all over the world with this spectacular win. Vinesh Phogat is a cousin to the Phogat sisters of Dangal fame. While the movie focused on the two sisters, Geeta and Babita Phogat, the sporty passion and dedication runs in every bloodline of the household.

Other contenders Sakshi Malik and Pooja Dhanda are now fighting for bronze places while Sumit Malik, unfortunately, lost in the Men’s 125Kg match.

Asian Games 2018 began on 18th August and will run on till 2nd September. This gold win now brings Indian tally to 5 medals in two days.

We are proud of you Vinesh! Congratulations and Good Luck!
