Here’s a list of the 10 most common fashion mistakes that we often make without even realising we are. We’ve put together a list of 10 such fashion faux pas that made us cringe.
1. Tie-dye shirts
Yes, everyone has owned at least one tie-dye shirt in their lifetime. Not that we have anything against colour, but all that colour all at once is a bit jarring, don’t you think? Tie-dye shirts are perhaps alright for kids, but certainly not for grown-ups.
Instead: Opt for a tie-n-dye cropped t-shirt for a fun day out, if you must.
2. Socks + sandals
Okay, so maybe sandals worn with socks are really comfortable, and those cute socks keep your toes snug and warm, and keep them from chafing. But fashion wise, such a look is just plain frumpy. We have seen men wear socks with their sandals, but ladies, you’ve got to stop being such fashion offenders, too.
Instead: Wear them with closed shoes, and keep them in a shade closer to your shoe colour, so it makes for a coordinated look.
3. Bright-coloured bras under sheer tops
Wearing a colourful bra under a sheer blouse just looks wrong and sloppy. Sheer tops are extremely fashionable if you know how to pull off the look.
Instead: A good option would be wearing a cute cami underneath the top, or wear a bandeau bra that is the same colour as the top. This way, you get a look that is classy, stylish and appropriate to be worn anywhere.
4. Extremely low slung pants
Low rise pants are totally fine; but if your low rise pants leave nothing to the imagination, then they start becoming a problem. Really, nobody wants to see the colour and type of undergarments you’re wearing and you’d do well to keep that detail to yourself!
Instead: Opt for a pair that is low, yet sits beautifully a little beneath your waist.
5. Office wear with sneakers
Wearing your favourite sneakers with corporate wear may be a thing for the runway, but in real life, it just looks out of place and tacky. We get it; sneakers are extremely comfortable and stylish, too, but only if worn with the right clothes. Maybe you could keep a pair in the office you can change into and change out of later?
Instead: If you like it comfy, choose a cropped pair of trousers, in a lighter colour palate that complements your plain sneakers beautifully.
6. Visible panty line
One fashion blunder that most women inadvertently make is wearing visible panty liners. These are really cringe-worthy; so make sure you’re not making this mistake. It’s always a good idea to check your behind in the mirror before you step out of the house.
Instead: Save yourself from this fashion regret by opting for seamless, nude underwear.
7. Skin-coloured leggings
“Is she not wearing pants?!” This is how confused flesh-coloured leggings can make you feel. And if you wear a short top with those leggings, it looks obscene.
Instead: As far as possible, try to stay away from skin-coloured leggings, but if you absolutely cannot, pair them with a long tunic that falls below the knees.
8. Button-popping clothing
Have you ever seen women wear shirts a few sizes too small for them and wondered how they manage to breathe in them? Wearing shirts and pants that are so snug that the buttons on them look ready to pop open is a fashion faux pas we wish had never existed.
Instead: Look for clothes that fit you well. Maybe they’re hard to find, but if you look hard enough you’ll find them!
9. Shorts with stockings
Stockings look adorable when paired with a short dress or even a skirt, but wearing them with a pair of shorts is taking it too far. Why would you want to mix and match where it is simply not required?
Instead: Wear stockings with a short skirt if the need be.
10. Fanny packs
So, okay, fanny packs make it so convenient to carry your little belongings around. However, no one can really say that fanny packs are an amazing fashion accessory.
Instead: Opt for a sling bag, they suit all body frames and are super convenient to carry.
