Bollywood is no more about running around trees. Today, a lot of movies are made that set about to break stereotypes and turn around taboos. Akshay Kumar can reaffirm this after delivering Toilet Ek Prem Katha. And now the 50-year-old is back with PadMan.
Similar to TEPK, PadMan aims to be a story of ushering social change with a hint of humour. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte in lead roles.
In the trailer, you’ll find a narration by Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay as the man who makes sanitary napkins for women and is even shown trying on in a pink underwear himself. He pitches the idea to his sisters and his wife (Radhika Apte), who all feel embarrassed to even discuss the sanitary health with their brother and husband respectively. His wife leaves him and the village people look down upon him. However, a social worker (Sonam Kapoor) helps him with his dreams.
This story is based on Arunachalam Muruganantham—the inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas and produced by Twinkle Khanna’s Mrs Funnybones Productions.
