Mithali Raj, captain of the Indian women’s cricket team had won many hearts when she led her team to the 2017 Women’s World Cup finals in England. Unfortunately, the team missed a heartbreaking close win to England but nonetheless, managed to garner laurels of laud and respect.
However, we all are aware of how bilaterally extreme the Indian public can get. The public who worships these personalities is also the same public who trolls and disrespects them. Similiarly, Raj too witnessed the Janus-face of her fans when she uploaded a picture of her along with her team-mates on twitter. She was in Bengaluru for the inauguration of a new cricket academy along with her team-mates Veda Krishnamurthy, Mamatha Maben and Nooshin Al Khadeer which is where the picture was clicked and uploaded. Now, one can expect nothing more from a socially backward, disrespectful and repulsive audience who instead of appreciating her post went on to point out at an iota of sweat that was visible in the player’s armpit in the picture.
“sorry Smt Captain, hahaha odd looking. the fasina wet” was the comment that was posted by one of her followers to which our captain responded in the most civil yet brazen and kick-ass manner possible. She went on to state, “I m where I m because I sweated it out on d field! I see no reason 2 be ashamed f it, when I’m on d ground inaugerating a cricket academy.” This reply has impressed many and her supporters stood by her side while she continued her streak of winning hearts.
