Karan Johar Launches Star Kids; Twitterati Sides With Kangana Accusing Him Of Nepotism

The nepotism debate has reared its ugly head again. This, after Karan Johar, shared the first look of Dhadak starring Sridevi’s elder daughter Jhanvi Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s half-brother, Ishaan Khattar, yesterday. Johar captioned the photo, “Presenting JANHVI in #???? Releasing 6th July 2018”. Later, he shared yet another poster introducing Khattar: “Presenting ISHAAN in #DHADAK”.

While the post went viral, with celebrity wishes including those from Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone pouring in for the star kids, it also brought the whole nepotism controversy to the fore, with Twitter exploding with negative reactions. Actress Kangana Ranaut had called the director of being the flagbearer of nepotism in Bollywood, on his show Koffee With Karan, when she appeared with her Rangoon co-stars Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Later, the director along with Varun Dhawan and Saif Ali Khan had also taken potshots at the actress earlier this year at IIFA. The director is responsible for the launch of several star kids including Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in Student Of The Year.

Much like the potshots taken at IIFA, the poster of the film too doesn’t seem to have gone down too well, and has had Twitter accusing the director of promoting nepotism. While one wrote, “NEPOTISM again”, another tweeted, “Another example of Nepotism …this man is an ambassador of Nepotism.” Some even referred to Ranaut’s comments saying, “Kangana must be laughing after seeing this.” Comments such as “Nepotism Zindabad”, and  “King in the north of Nepotism,” etc followed soon after. Another one read, “Hope they have at least acted well, to justify your love for #Nepotism”.

While we don’t mind the poster of Dhadak really, we also understand that this existent nepotism needs to end. Well, we hope the young actors will hold their own in the film, and give us enough reason to smile, nepotism or not! For the uninitiated, Dhadak is a remake of the Marathi hit Sairat, and will be directed by Dhadak will be directed by Shashank Khaitan (Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania).
