With this October heat, you are bound to get sunburnt. And that’s harsh, painful and dangerous. Other than applying tons of sunscreen and carrying an umbrella wherever you go, there’s nothing more you can do to avoid the heat. But what do you do once you actually get a horrible sunburn? Here are some of our favorite natural home remedies to soothe sunburns.

A classic trick, milk baths are the best way to soothe sunburns. Soaking in milk will help nourish and moisturize your skin after this harsh treatment. If you don’t have a tub, simply soak a towel in milk and compress it on the sore spots for relief. It acts as a coolant and helps in reducing the pain and sensitivity around the area.
Use good ol’ Vaseline to soother sunburns. Refrigerate a tub of Vaseline and apply it on the areas affected by the sun. It helps your skin to regrow and stay hydrated improving the healing process.
Yogurt or dahi is a good way to keep cool since they contain good bacteria that help in healing your skin. Use it as an antibacterial cream to hydrate and provide coolness to the affected areas. It will also keep any infections from festering on your burnt skin.
A quirky idea but very effective is to apply used tea bags to areas that are sunburnt. The healing properties in tea leaves help to reduce swelling and inflammation. You can always make tea and soak a towel and compress it on the burn areas for relief.

Possibly the most natural coolant in the world, cucumbers are a good way to lower body heat and burning sensations. Cucumbers are anti-inflammatory and hence used under puffy eyes for increasing blood flow and removing dark circles. Make a cucumber paste or sunburn areas to soothe it.
Baking soda is rich in moisturizing properties and taking a bath in diluted baking soda will help soothe your skin. It reduces itching and cools the inflamed skin. Pour a cup of baking soda in warm water and soak in it till the water turns cold for best results.
A soother, honey helps moisturize and works as an antibiotic cream on burns and inflamed areas. It increases healing and reduce infection due to its natural healing properties and is also called as the organic salve.
