Indian festivals are not just about tradition, ethnic clothes, lights and colours… it’s also about mouthwatering Indian sweets, especially ladoos! Without a platter of ladoos, Indian festivities seem incomplete. So, this Diwali don the chef’s hat and try your hand at these 5 simplified laddoo recipes for this Diwali.
Besan Ladoo
INGREDIENTS
- 500 gm besan (gram flour)
- 350-400 gm ghee
- 250 gm sugar, ground
- 1 ½ cup cashew nuts, almonds and pistachios, cut into small pieces
METHOD
- In a pan, heat ghee and add besan to it. Roast it on a low flame until golden brown. Make sure there are no flour clumps.
- When the pan starts leaving ghee, remove it off of flame.
- Add sugar powder and dry fruits to it when it is still hot. Mix well. Let it cool down.
- When it is completely cooled down, start rolling the mixture into ladoos.

Suji Ladoo
INGREDIENTS
- 1 cup suji (semolina)
- ½ cup grated coconut
- ½ cup ghee
- ½ cup cashew nuts and almonds, cut into small pieces
- 1 cup sugar, ground
- ½ cup milk, as per requirement
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
METHOD
- In a pan, heat ghee and add suji to it. Roast it for 10 minutes on a low flame.
- Add dry fruits and grated coconut to the mixture. Stir well.
- Add sugar powder, little milk and cardamom powder to the mixture. Stir it continuously for the next 2 minutes. Remove it off the heat. Let it cool down.
- When it is completely cooled down, start rolling the mixture into ladoos.

Carrot Ladoo
INGREDIENTS
- 250 gm carrots, grated
- 2 cups sugar, or as per taste
- ½ tsp cardmom powder
- ½ cup cashew nuts, almonds and pistachios, cut into small pieces
METHOD
- In a pan, add grated carrots and cook them on a low flame, continuously stirring them until they becomes soft.
- Add sugar to it and cook until the mixture becomes water-less.
- Add cardamom powder and chopped powder to it. Remove it off of the heat. Let it cool down.
- When it is completely cooled down, start rolling the mixture into ladoos.
Coconut Ladoo
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups fresh coconut, grated
- ½ cup ghee
- ½ cup condensed milk, or as required
- ½ cup milk powder, or as required
- ½ cup roasted coconut
- ½ tsp kewda essence
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
METHOD
- In a pan, cook grated coconut for 2 minutes on a low flame.
- Add ghee and condensed milk to it and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Add the rest of ingredients and mix well. Remove it off of heat. And let it cool down.
- When it is completely cooled down, start rolling the mixture into ladoos.
Flour Ladoo
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup ghee
- ½ cup almonds
- ½ cup makhana
- ½ cup gond (Tragacanth Gum), coarsely ground
- 1 cup sugar, ground
- 1 tbsp raisins
METHOD
- Grind almonds and makhana separately and keep them aside in two different bowls.
- In a pan, heat some ghee and add whole wheat flour to it. Roast it evenly on a low flame until golden brown.
- When the pan starts leaving ghee, remove it off of heat. Let it cool down.
- When the mixture cools down add rest of the ingredients and mix well.
- Roll the mixture into ladoos.
