Birthday Special: 5 Times Sanjay Leela Bhansali Has Made Us Believe In Love

Every time he has come up with a movie, he has re-defined love. Be it Devdas or Saawariya, Khamoshi or Black, Ramleela or Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Sanjay has created magic on screen. Today is his birthday. As this storyteller is turning a year old and is busy creating another love story (Padmavati), let’s take 5 instances, where he has made us believe in love again.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

This is probably one of the most beautifully narrated love story of modern Hindi cinema. The lead pair, who fall in love, got separated and met again and separated again due to the reason that Nandini was married and had commitments towards her new relationship…a classic Indian dilema…a eternal clash between a beloved and husband.

Devdas (2002)

This Sharatchandra Chatterjee classic was made in Hindi before too. But Sanjay has incorporated his signature larger than life touch to it. Can anybody forget the scene when Devdas met Parvati the day before her wedding and after a heating conversation became a part of her wedding? It was simply fabulous…

Black (2005)

When the real-life story of Helen Keller turned into the reel-life story of Michelle, Black was made. Time Magazine (Europe) selected the film as one of the 10 Best Movies of the Year 2005 from around the globe. The chemistry between the lead pair Michelle and Debraj Sahai was so strong and deep rooted, that when they shared a kiss, everybody was spellbound!

Ramleela (2013)

An earthy, erotic love story of Ram and Leela was actually an adaptation of Shakespear’s Romeo and Juliet. Though the entire film was full of sultry scenes between the lead pair, but our favourite was the picturization of the song Lahoo muh lag gaya…

Bajirao Mastani (2015)

Though it was mainly a movie which depicted the love story of Peshwa Bajirao and Mastani, but how can we forget the ethereal love scenes between Bajirao and his wife Kashibai? Think about that scene when Bajirao returns from a war and met Kashi at the gosalkhana and pours water over his beloved wife…what a sensuous way to portray love…
