5 Things You Can Do Instead Of Bursting Crackers This Diwali

Who says you need loud and expensive patakas to prove you’re celebrating Diwali every year? This year, get creative, generous and high-spirited with sweets, décor and loads of fun memories, instead of adding to the noise pollution. Here are some fun and easy ways to make for a memorable Diwali, minus the crackers.

  • House Party!

It’s Diwali, a festival that calls for celebration but that doesn’t always mean crackers. Gather your family, relatives, and cousins under one roof for a big khaandani fun and feast. It’s a great time to catch up with your family and friends who’ve been busy and haven’t seen you in ages. Indulge in innovative card games and mouth-watering sweets while you dance the night away to Bollywood numbers in your living room.

  • Gift A Smile

Show kindness to those who are unfortunate in times like these. Since you aren’t bursting crackers, why not donate that money to the underprivileged? Visit an old-age home or an orphanage. Spending time with the destitute will make you feel warm and loved. You could always gift stationery, toys or clothes for orphans and invite them for a meal at your place. Even taking care of strays by feeding and giving them shelter in your house or garden is a noble deed and you’ll make a new friend too!

  • Staycation

More often than not, people cannot stand the increasing noise pollution during Diwali. Take a mini-vacation to a less noisy location for a much-needed break. Serene nearby towns and rentable villas on the outskirts of the city are good options for a staycation. If you’re the lazy kind, you can also stay in, binge watch a TV series and soundproof your room as much as possible.

  • Upcycled Décor

Decorate your house with upcycled décor pieces this season. DIY your lanterns, diyas and even wall hangings with different craft papers, ribbons, and fairy lights. No need to spend money when you can make them yourselves. Funky colors, cardboard, papers and a pair of scissors can help in transforming household items into innovative décor.

  • Eco-Friendly Crackers / Sky Lanterns

And if you can’t resist the crackers, opt for environment-friendly fireworks instead. Yes, such a thing exists and it’s time you start thinking about nature. You can also let loose colourful and pretty looking lanterns in the night sky with family and friends. After all, Diwali is the festival of lights and not just crackers.
