5 Creative Ways To Teach Your Child Good Hygiene Habits

Keeping hands clean: Maximum germs are spread through touch and therefore, it is crucial to help your child learn to keep his hands clean. Keep a sturdy step-stool in the bathroom so that he/she can reach the sink. To make it fun and easy, get a pump-action hand soap dispenser in the shape of an animal or your child’s favourite cartoon character.

Coughing/sneezing into a tissue:
While coughing, a child’s instinct is to use his/her hand to stop those germs from spreading into the air, but that’s not a good idea. Explain to your child that if he/she sneezes or coughs into her hand, the germs will get on her fingers. The safest way to sneeze or a cough is to block the spray of germs with a tissue. Remind your child to throw or flush away the tissue and then wash her hands after using it.

Keeping fingers out of the nose:
It can be difficult to keep your child from turning into a frequent nostril diver. In such cases, help your child develop one habit which includes keeping their hands below their shoulders. You can enforce the hands down habit by explaining to your child that the lesser he/she touches the face, the less likely he/she is going to get sick since germs like to sneak in through body parts such as the eyes and the nose.

Brushing teeth the right way:
Mothers can make this activity fun by joining their children when it is time for brushing teeth. This way, you can hold his/her hand to show him/her how to angle the brush against his/her gums and let him/her scrub away. Until your child can take over caring for his teeth himself, let him practise. In the earlier days, let him/her squeeze a pea-sized amount of toothpaste onto the toothbrush.
But ensure that he/she learns to brush the right way.

Post potty wiping: When you first potty train your child, you will be helping your child with the wiping. But eventually, you will need to teach your kid to clean his/her own nether regions after he/she uses the bathroom. Teach your child to wipe until the toilet paper comes out clean and stay with your child for the first couple of weeks of attempted solo wipes
